Medication therapy management (MTM) generally describes the services, provided by a pharmacist, to help a consumer get the most benefit from his or her pharmacy treatment. Sometimes referred to as Medication Therapy Management Services, this key oversight of pharmacy care by trained professionals was instituted by the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 ( MMA) and is required for certain consumers covered under Part D prescription drug benefit of MMA, which became effective in January 2006. prescription drug benefit.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed that all Part D plans implement MTM programs to provide more in-depth patient communication and follow-through.
